When should we expect to see plastic Eby Manor bottles? 

You can expect to see plastic Eby Manor bottles on store shelves as of the end of November 2025.

Why are you switching from glass to plastic bottles?

Hewitt’s Dairy Ltd., our long-time co-packer who bottles Eby Manor products, is discontinuing any glass bottle processing and transitioning entirely to plastic bottles and containers. Hewitt’s Dairy has cited several reasons for this change, including the substantial inputs of fresh water and chemicals involved in glass washing and sterilization; the significant labour involved in the sorting, inspecting, and handling of used glass bottles; ongoing risks of contamination and breakages during production; and the significant costs of investment required to update their current bottle washing equipment. 

With the growth of our milk processing volume and expansion of our product offerings over time, Hewitt’s Dairy remains our trusted co-packing partner capable of both the scale and high standards that we require and at which they continue to operate.

 

Are the plastic bottles recyclable?

Yes! Our new plastic bottles are fully recyclable and consistent with your local Blue Box program. 

 

Is there any deposit on plastic bottles?

No, there will no longer be any deposits charged for Eby Manor products. 

 

Can I still get a refund for my glass bottle deposits?

Yes! We will continue to honour the $2 deposit on any Eby Manor glass bottles returned to us at our farm store and to retailers of our products until February 28th, 2026. You may also keep as many glass bottles as you like – they’re still stylish and useful!

 

Can I refill my glass bottles or other containers with milk at your farm store?

No, we cannot fill any bottles or containers coming in to our farm store. All Eby Manor fluid milk products will be sold in sealed plastic bottles. In order to preserve the shelf-life of purchased milk and prevent any contamination, we encourage you to keep milk in its original packaging until ready to be enjoyed. 

 

Will you offer any larger packaging formats for your milk?

Our goal in the coming year is to offer 4 L milk jugs for both our 2% and 4.8% non-homogenized milk to better serve many families who purchase Eby Manor products.

What about plastic leaching? 

Leaching from plastic into liquids may become a concern for some consumers when beverages are stored either at elevated temperatures or for extended periods of time, or both. Eby Manor fluid milk products, packaged in food-safe single-use plastic bottles, have two significant advantages over many other drinks commonly sold in plastic packaging including water, juices, soft drinks, teas, and energy drinks. Depending on the product, these can have shelf lives ranging from months to upwards of two years and are often stored unrefrigerated. By contrast, our bottled milk products avoid these joint potential concerns of time and temperature because they enjoy a relatively short best before date of only three weeks from the time of bottling (due to our adhering to the minimum required pasteurization process) and they remain refrigerated from the time of bottling up until the point of sale (at a temperature not exceeding 4 degrees), only to return to your fridge at home.
